hey,
Not really sure how to start this, but just felt like i needed to share. Maybe it'll help someone, or maybe I just need to get it out. Idk.
So back in May I got real sick out of nowhere. Thought it was a common viral infection or somthing. Fever, chills and I just felt off. Figured I’d sleep it off, drink water, take some paracetamol and do the usual.
During the 3rd day, I couldn’t stay awake for more than 10 mins at a time. It was like I had lost all conciousness. I was confused, sweating like crazy, and my hand started looking weird. It was kind of purple. My gf got super freaked and drove me to ER. Honestly if she hadn’t, I dunno if I’d be here rn. They said it was sepsis. I barely even heard the word before.
Apparently it started from a urinary tract infection I didn’t know I had. A UTI almost killed me. They put me on all kinds of IV meds, I was in ICU for 5 days. I don’t remember most of it tbh. Just flashes, beeping machines, nurses always coming in. It’s all kinda blurry. I got out after 11 days total.
Thing is, I thought that meant I was okay now. But recovery has been... rough. No one tells you how messed up you feel after. Brain fog, tired all the time, I even forgot my PIN code at the ATM once and almost cried. Just felt like I’m not myself anymore. Work has been hard. I had to cut back hours, and even then I’m dragging.
Everyone keeps saying “you’re lucky” and I am, don’t get me wrong, but it’s hard when your body feels like it’s betraying you every day. I still get scared it’ll come back. Every little ache or fever freaks me out now.
Anyway, not sure why I’m writing this here but if anyone else went thru sepsis, how long did it take you to feel okay again? Or is this just how it is now? Would love to hear if anyone else has been dealing with post-sepsis stuff too.
thanks for reading if you did.
